Traffic lights of healthy eating inspires nutritional experts from Japan

09.04.2010

The Kolín car manufacturer, TPCA Toyota Peugeot Citroën, gathered more success with their concept of promoting healthy eating in the cafeteria – using a traffic light. A simple distribution of food by the color came to inspire nutritional experts from Japan.

Eight months ago, the carmaker introduced a system of distribution offers in the cafeteria by using the colour of traffic lights - green, orange, red. Within a short time the project has been very well understood by employees and now a third of the diners choose the green colour, diet or lighter meals. "Dividing the food and the overall concept of the project was also consulted with a known promoter of healthy eating and lifestyle, Dr. Kateřina Cajthamlová that disproved the myth that if you want to eat well and feel full you must have a schnitzel covering the entire plate to do so, "says Vadim Petrov, General Manager of the Business Affairs department on the project.

The project impressed not only the employees but also nutrition experts from Japan, who visited Kolín’s carmaker in late March to draw inspiration from this project. Among the guests were Professor Yoshimi Minari from the Faculty of Nutritional Sciences and Professor Noritaka Tokui from the University studying the impact of work environment on health.

TPCA representatives presented their project development and plan for its future development. "They treated the diet system according to traffic lights as unique and appreciated its simplicity. In return, they introduced their own projects dealing with a healthy diet including JAKUZEN (healthy food) studies and offered us cooperation in this area. They plan on labelling food using the traffic light plan in Japan and will inform us of its success, „says Vadim Petrov.
